Overview
Pay by Bank lets your customers pay directly from their UK bank account. It is available as a payment method in the Advanced Payments API and is shown on the PaySuite Payment Page when it is enabled on your account.
Pay by Bank uses Open Banking which is supported by a wide variety of banks and building societies in the UK, including all major high-street banks.
How it works
When a customer chooses Pay by Bank, they are redirected to their bank's authorisation flow. After they authorise the payment, the funds are transferred and the transaction status is updated.
- The payment is placed in a PENDING state immediately after processing.
- It moves to SUCCESS once the transfer is confirmed.
- If the transfer is not confirmed within a reasonable time, it is marked EXPIRED.
- Refunds are supported, including multiple partial refunds up to the original amount.
Choose an integration option

- Your Payment Page — build the payment flow yourself using our API.
Using the APIs
Credentials, endpoint addresses for testing and live processing, and response codes are the same as for the rest of the Advanced Payments family — see Using the APIs.
Common features with Cards & Wallets
Beyond the APIs themselves, much of the functionality documented for Cards & Wallets are available for Pay by Bank, so those pages are the reference for it too.
