Google Pay saved account tokens

If you’re using the API product, upon successful completion of your customer’s first payment, we can return a token in the response. This can be used for future Payments, Authorisation or Payout requests in place of the customer’s physical confirmation via the Google Pay interface.

When a token is returned

By default the payment method will be registered, which will result in a token being returned in the response as paymentMethod.googlepay.savedAccountToken. All you need to do to reuse the payment method is provide the token itself for each subsequent request.

When you should use a token

Use a token when you initiate a later payment, authorisation or payout on the customer’s behalf, without the customer being present.

Please note that the token is only to be used when the merchant is processing a transaction on the customer’s behalf, without the customer being on their site. If the customer is on the site requesting to pay, they should go through the full Google Pay process.

Tokens and authorisation methods

A saved account token is returned for both types of Google Pay authorisation method. When making a subsequent request the request will always be the same, however the response will contain only the relevant response data for the authorisation method. This is shown in the API examples for both:
